Youtube Videos

For some bird photography trips, I take videos and upload them to youtube. I don’t like to do too many as it takes my focus away from the birds. Anyway, You’ll find all my videos linked on this page.

Another bit of birding and bird photography around Staffordshire. I went to Tucklesholme again, and came across a Whinchat, Hobby, Lesser Whitethroat, loads of Reed Buntings, Whitethroat, and a rathre nice Egret sat atop a dead tree.

More bird photography tales in Staffordshire.
Brankley Pastures is an easily overlooked nature reserve down a small back lane in Staffordshire between 2-3 villages. I've had great success birding around here, but also a lot of quiet days. It's my favourite local field for Linnets and Yellowhammers, and always surprises with something unexpected. In the past here I've seen Green Sandpiper, Curlew, Stoat, Linnet, Yellowhammer, Buzzard, Kestrel and more... so thought i'd pop back again to see if the Yellowhammers were there. During the morning I had a surprise encounter with something i'd not seen for years.

A simple answer to the question : Is there anything wrong with the Canon RF 200-800? And should you buy it over the Canon RF 100-500 ?
The figures i quote in this were going from memory.. i think at 500mm the aperture is actually F8, as someone commented.
Canon RF 200-800. Is it really that bad?
I went to Cambridge for a couple of days so went to Fen Drayton and Ouse Fen for some Bird photography. I didn't get many pics but really enjoyed the day and got a couple of vids. My first sighting of a Chinese water deer (I didn't even know they existed), saw a fox, sightings of marsh harriers and Bearded Reedlings, Reed Buntings, heard the Bitterns, and a few other bits and pieces.

Another trip to my favourite local bird watching spot down the affectionately called 'dogging lane'. Only about two minutes drive, down a long unused lane (hence the name) over the railway bridge, and there it is.

A couple of hours spent at Calke Abbey on a very cold February morning doing some more bird photography. Jays, Marsh Tits, Coal Tits, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Nuthatch, and a couple of others.
Calke Abbey is only about 20 mins from me, and is hit and miss, but you'll always find something at the hides. A great place to spot Marsh Tits and the odd water rail.

A little trip out for more bird photography, one very cold morning to The River Wye at Monsal Dale in the Peak District, to see if I can find some Dippers. The river was very high, so the usual rocks they sit on were covered, so I was resigned to getting a couple of shots on the bank.

I'm now into my third year of Bird Photography. I've learned a lot of things along the way (except how to take good images ! ) so thought i'd sum up my bird photography journey for anyone who is in the same position as i was just a short while ago. I'm still learning, and i hopefully will be for many years.
Beginning Bird Photography: What I learnt
Today, i went out to *not* do any Bird Photography. I wasn't disappointed. I didn't see more birds this day than i'd not seen in any other day prior to this. Bird Photography is kinda difficult sometimes.
Bird Photography : 'No Bird Day' didn't disappoint
